Planned Giving Society

Planned Giving

Thank you for your continued charitable support and longstanding belief in the work that Great Lakes Recovery Centers does every day, 365 days a year.

As you probably already know, GLRC has origins in the mid-1970's and, as a non-profit behavioral health agency, has been offering a diverse range of services throughout Michigan's Upper Peninsula for more than 40 years. Services we provide include:

· A continuum of substance use disorder programming

· Mental health services

· Child & adolescent care

· Integrated medical services

· Reentry case management

· Recovery housing

· Community-based prevention

· Foster care recruitment and retention

Because of your commitment to GLRC, I want to personally invite you to become an exclusive member of the GLRC Legacy Society. The society is composed of generous and dedicated donors like you who support our long-term success through a planned gift.

We’ve made becoming a member really easy. While cash gifts are always appreciated, there are other giving options that we think you’ll find to your liking. For example, donating stock or other assets in return for a series of regular payments. Many planned giving options offer generous tax benefits as well.

Naming GLRC as the beneficiary of a retirement account is an option. Making GLRC the beneficiary of a life insurance policy is another. Or, simply naming GLRC in your will or estate plan is yet another. You can make a n immeasurable impact through a charitable bequest in your will.

We encourage you to consult with your financial advisor to discuss the options.

By becoming a valued member of the GLRC Legacy Society, you will be honored through:

#1: Recognition on our website

#2: Tributes in our quarterly newsletter

#3: Invitation to an annual dinner, exclusive for GLRC Legacy Society members.

Your support helps guarantee the sustainability of GLRC in a way that makes your core values known to

others. Your support will have a long-lasting impact for generations to come and will inevitably inspire others just like you to support.

Ways to Give

Ways to Give!

1. Gifts by Will – Beneficiary designations are one of the simplest and effective ways to make a generational gift. Simply leave a percentage or set dollar amount in your will to GLRC.

2. Lead trusts allow you to benefit EDF now, then your heirs.

3. Gifts of life insurance. Simply make GLRC the beneficiary of your policy. When you pass, the death benefit goes to GLRC.

More on bequests

Bequests are gifts through a will or living trust and include transfers of cash, securities, or other property. They are made by including language in your will or living trust that leaves a portion of your estate—either specific or residual—to GLRC.

Bequests are the most common way to give a future gift to EDF.

A Specific Bequest names a fixed dollar amount in your will or living trust as a gift to EDF. This gift is paid from the general pool of assets in your estate or trust

A Percentage Bequest distributes a percentage of the value of your estate assets. Because the value of personal assets can rise and fall, it is often simplest to express these bequests as a percentage of your estate. This ensures that if your estate changes, your gifts will remain proportional to each other.

A Residual Bequest distributes all or a portion of the remaining balance of your estate after all other bequests are paid.

We encourage you to consult with an attorney to help you with a will or trust. Here is some sample language you can use:

“I give to Great Lakes Recovery Centers, Michigan, having as its principal address ? Malton Road, Negaunee, MI 49866, [the sum of $____ or ____% of my estate or residuary estate] to be used for its general purposes.

If you wish for your gift to be used for a specific purpose, we can work with you and/or your attorney to help draft the desired language.

What are the benefits of making a planned gift?

  •  You may change your bequest or trust designation at any time
  •  You control the funding property during your lifetime
  •  Your bequest or trust designation will not be subject to any potential federal estate tax
  •  You provide future support for Great Lakes Recovery Centers

And the most important benefit of all? You will feel good knowing that your planned gift is transformational and will help patients and their families across the region for decades to come.
